Applying for Support at Home isn't something you do alone — the whole process runs through My Aged Care, and it follows a fairly predictable sequence of steps.
Step 1: Contact My Aged Care
Call 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au to start. A staff member will complete an initial screening over the phone to understand your situation.
Step 2: Home assessment
If the initial screening suggests you may be eligible, an assessor will arrange a home visit to understand your needs in more detail. This assessment is what determines your funding classification and quarterly budget.
Step 3: Choose your providers
Once approved, you (often together with a Care Partner) can choose your own providers, including for nursing and allied health — you're not limited to whoever your Care Partner suggests first.
Step 4: Start your services
With your plan and providers in place, you can begin receiving support — whether that's help around the home, nursing care, or allied health services like dietetics or exercise physiology.
