NDIS & Home Care Funding Guide

Understanding how to fund allied health shouldn't be complicated. Whether it's through the NDIS, Support at Home, Medicare, private health insurance, DVA or another scheme, here's a plain-English guide — and if you get stuck, we're one phone call away.

Our Primary Funding Pathways

Which funding pathway applies to you?

Most of our clients come to us through one of these two pathways.

NDIS Participants

If you have an NDIS plan, our services are typically funded under Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building) or, in some cases, Core Supports. We work with all plan management types.

  • Self-managed: you pay invoices directly and claim back through the NDIS portal.
  • Plan-managed: your Plan Manager pays us directly — no paperwork for you.
  • NDIA-managed (Agency-managed): we invoice the NDIS directly on your behalf.

Support at Home / Home Care Package

Older Australians accessing Support at Home (formerly Home Care Packages) can use their package funds for allied health services that support independence and wellbeing at home.

  • Package-managed: your provider or Care Partner coordinates and pays for our services from your package budget.
  • Self-managed package: you approve our invoices, which are then paid from your allocated funds via Services Australia and your registered provider.
  • Referral from GP or Care Partner: we can also accept referrals from your GP, hospital or Aged Care Care Partner.
Other Options

Other ways to fund allied health in Australia

Not an NDIS participant or Support at Home client? You may still be able to access our services through one of these other Australian funding schemes.

Medicare (GP Chronic Condition Management)

If you have a chronic health condition and complex care needs, your GP may set up a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP), giving you Medicare-rebated visits to a Dietitian, Exercise Physiologist or Speech Pathologist. Ask your GP if you're eligible.

Private Health Insurance

Many private health extras (ancillary) policies include a rebate for Dietetics, Exercise Physiology and Speech Pathology consultations. Check your policy's allied health cover and any annual limits.

DVA (Department of Veterans' Affairs)

DVA Gold Card holders, and eligible White Card holders, can access our services with a referral — generally with no out-of-pocket cost for approved treatment.

Workers Compensation & TAC

If your condition relates to a workplace injury or a transport accident, allied health services may be funded through WorkSafe Victoria or the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) as part of your claim.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme

Not yet accessing Support at Home? CHSP provides entry-level, subsidised support for older Australians living at home, which can include allied health services.

Self-Funded / Private

Prefer to pay privately, or don't fit one of the schemes above? We also see clients on a straightforward fee-for-service basis, with no funding body or referral required.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

No formal referral is required for most NDIS Capacity Building supports — participants, families or Support Coordinators can refer directly. For Support at Home clients, a referral from your Care Partner, GP or hospital is common but not always required. If you're unsure, use our Refer a Client form or contact us and we'll guide you.

Nutrition Support, Speech Pathology, Exercise Physiology, Nursing and Occupational Therapy are generally funded under:

  • Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building)
  • Improved Health & Wellbeing (Capacity Building), for Exercise Physiology and Dietetics
  • In some circumstances, Core Supports

Exact eligibility depends on your individual plan and goals — our intake team will confirm this with you before your first session.

Yes — we support all three plan management types. Plan-managed and NDIA-managed clients have their invoices handled directly by us or their Plan Manager, so there's minimal admin on your end. Self-managed clients pay invoices and claim through the NDIS portal at their convenience.

Yes, our fees align with the NDIS Pricing Schedule published by the NDIA. For Support at Home clients, fees are agreed with your Care Partner or provider in line with your package budget.

Our intake team aims to make contact within 2 business days of receiving a referral to confirm funding and book an initial assessment. Urgent clinical needs (e.g. swallowing safety concerns) are prioritised — please note this on your referral form.

Use our dedicated Refer a Client form — it takes about two minutes and captures everything our intake team needs, including plan management type and urgency. We'll confirm receipt and follow up directly with the client or their representative.

Yes. Alongside NDIS and Support at Home, we also see clients funded through GP Chronic Condition Management Plans (Medicare), private health insurance extras cover, DVA Gold and eligible White Card, WorkSafe Victoria and TAC claims, the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, and private fee-for-service.
